A Map For an Other LA is the first guide produced by Llano Del Rio, a Los Angeles-based working group.  The front of the two-sided poster is a loosely sketched marker drawing by Katie Bachler overlaid with a lettered, numbered grid, which indicates the relative locations of community gardens and bike kitchens, a former tent city, and a tunnel off the 101 where a cello player performs at night. The back provides descriptions of resources and radical households alike, and indicates the location of each on the grid. The project suggests that LA’s sprawling landscape signals its resistance to containment within a singular history, and offers a key to ninety-one sites where alternative narratives are being produced.
