This guide was given to participants who attended How To Survive, a two-day workshop organized by Alyse Emdur and Michael Parker. The zine provides step-by-step hand-drawn instructions for building small cardboard and aluminum solar ovens, which can reach boiling temperatures without fuel or electricity.  Aside from being model projects at grade school science fairs, solar cooking devices are increasingly used by disaster relief agencies, by citizens of developing nations, and by refugees as tools for preparing food and pasteurizing water without having to obtain and burn resources. How To Survive took place at Andrea Zittel’s A-Z West in conjunction with High Desert Test Sites.
